Ta Pinu is situated on a plateau off the road in between Victoria and Gharb and is Malta's national shrine. It was here a local peasant woman in 1883 heard a voice calling to her. Along with a friend they prayed for the woman's critically sick mother, who miracously recovered. From then on miracle cures grew in numbers and the local chapel became a place of pilgrimage.
