In between Xaghra and Ramla Bay is the islands most mythical spot, Calypsos Cave. Set high in the cliffs, this is believed to be a labyrinth that goes right down to sea level with in the cliffs. Local legend, as does the works of Homer and Callimachus suggests that it is here that the Greek hero Odysseus was washed ashore and into the arms of the golden haired temptress Calypso, on his epic return from Troy. A rock fall has seen to people exploring the labyrinth within the caves but for a small donation locals will take you as far as possibly safe. The view makes the visit even more worthwhile. Ramla Bay lays claim to being Gozo's finest beach and lies beneath Calypsos Cave. The beach has no building and it is as uncommercialised as it was when Calypso ruled the land. San Blas is a smaller beach in a cove and people have to leave early to get a spot here, as it is only big enough for a few families to share.
